kicking the clown's ass

i finally finished reading fast food nation, and if you haven't read it yet, you must do it now.

as a beef-eating american, a fast food addict, it opened my eyes to a lot of things i'd not paid attention to in the past. things we've all heard, but try to ignore.

it didn't really curb my appetite for red meat, as i was warned it would, but it did make me think about where i eat, and most importantly, where my child eats.

the processing nightmares, food riddled with diseases, huge conglomerates that care not about their consumers, but their revenues, and a government that seems to applaud it with one hand while taking money with the other- made me feel sick.

it's pathetic and frightening, and it makes you think about what you're supporting when you buy a cheeseburger.

the book focuses mainly on mcdonald's, the history, the greed, the inconsistancies, the deceit, the general uncaring- and i felt ashamed that i bought into all my life.

so i decided that i would, at least until i forget about all i read, forgo the mickey dee experience.

anyone who purposely targets our children with their advertising, anyone who cannot force their meat suppliers to consider the health and safety of not only those who eat their product, but also those who work to process it, well, they don't need me.

since the beginning of the fast food revolution, our quality of life has gone down hill, in my opinion. obesity is at the highest level ever, and rising. heart disease and food poisoning are everyday things. people eat and run, ever sitting at the dining room table and talking with their families. nothing is good enough anymore, it all must be BIGGER. it's scary, and i think i can try and change that a little for my family by making one little change.

i could go on and on, but really, you should read the book. it makes an impact.

if i had one thing to add about it, it is this...

support your local ranchers, support the family restuarants, support hard working individuals who actually care, and say "fuck you" to the industry that has brainwashed us.

ronald mcdonald can kiss my ass.
